These Skills Are in Demand
Minnesota DEED reports a median wage of $36.07 per hour for HVAC mechanics and installers statewide in Q1 2025, with 5,190 workers employed in the occupation. The same OES snapshot puts the statewide median for all occupations at about $26.22/hr (with a nationwide comparison median around $24.13/hr on the DEED table), which helps show HVAC above the Minnesota-wide baseline. DEED also publishes regional estimates where substate wages and employment differ.
Nationally, BLS reports about 425,200 HVAC mechanics and installers employed across the U.S., a median annual wage of about $59,810, typical entry education of postsecondary nondegree award, and projects 8% employment growth from 2024 to 2034 with roughly 34,500 average annual job openings. BLS describes HVAC work across homes, schools, hospitals, and other buildings; job openings reflect workers who retire or change occupations as well as industry growth.
